Lions Roam New York

From world-class museums and cultural landmarks to parks, theaters, and even working farms, the city offers endless opportunities for discovery and inspiration.
Through the Lions Roam New York program, Lower School students take their learning beyond textbooks and into the vibrant cultural, historical, and natural spaces that make our city extraordinary.
Each grade enjoys curated experiences that connect directly to classroom studies, whether visiting a farm to see how food grows, exploring a museum’s latest exhibition, or discovering the architecture and stories that shape our neighborhoods. These adventures spark curiosity, deepen understanding, and make lessons come alive in ways that children never forget.

Learning by Doing
Kindergarteners might explore Central Park’s ecosystems during a science unit, while 3rd graders step into history at the Tenement Museum. Older students may investigate art at the Whitney or Frick, or study performance during a Broadway workshop. Each trip is intentional, designed to reinforce classroom learning while showing children that ideas studied at school are alive in the world around them.
Confidence in the City
Just as importantly, Lions Roam NY helps students build confidence and independence. Traveling as a class encourages collaboration, problem-solving, and real-world awareness, while also fostering a sense of belonging in one of the world’s most dynamic cities. Parents often remark that their children return from these excursions with new knowledge, but also with a growing sense of self-reliance and excitement about navigating New York.
Shaping Lifelong Learners
These early explorations lay the foundation for the curiosity, adaptability, and cultural fluency that will serve students throughout their BWL journey. By embracing all that New York has to offer, our students learn that education doesn’t stop at the classroom door—it lives everywhere around them, and it invites them to keep asking questions, keep making connections, and keep discovering.
