BWL to Collaborate with the University of Iowa’s International Writing Program and Bennington Unbound
As part of the Global Poetry Consortium’s plan for the 2021 Festival, both the University of Iowa’s International Writing Program (IWP) and Bennington College have agreed to partner with BWL to develop exciting interactive programs for students. The IWP conducts multiple writing programs, including hosting the oldest, largest, and most prestigious international writing residency in the world, and creative writing exchanges for high-school and college students. The international focus of the IWP should be a natural fit with the Global Poetry Consortium as well as BWL’s commitment to involve more students in poetry writing as we prepare for next spring’s Global Poetry Festival.

Leading up to the Global Poetry Festival, which will be virtual again in 2021, following the success of last year’s Festival, Iowa’s IWP will run promotional workshops for BWL’s Honors English course, juniors and seniors. These events will pave the way for the IWP portion of the festival, which is to include five featured artists, providing one-hour Zoom webinars for our community and the other members of the Global Poetry Consortium. In addition, Iowa’s IWP has agreed to develop programming for grades K through 5; events combining music and visual arts with poetry; and five workshops for Middle and Upper School students taking place during the Festival.

Our collaboration with Bennington College was developed through Bennington Unbound, the creative engine that will provide a one-month remote course for BWL poetry students. Bennington College Students will read their work at The Global Poetry Festival during a featured time slot. These are just a few of the fruitful collaborations between BWL and the Global Poetry Consortium, as well as both the Iowa International Writing Program and Bennington Unbound. The workshops developed at both Iowa and Bennington are highly prestigious with inclusive traditions that will enhance not only the Global Poetry Festival, but BWL’s own traditions and writing curriculums.
