A Message from the Alumni Board Co-President
When it was time to decide where my son Jonathan was going to Kindergarten, I had a very strong feeling and desire that he attend Birch Wathen Lenox.
My primary reason was that I had attended Birch Wathen for 13 years, graduating in 1989, and had the best experience. Most of my life long friends are from Birch, and I always felt challenged, nurtured, and appreciated as an individual at Birch.
When I called Julie Kaplan ‘88, the former Head of Admissions, with regard to Jonathan, she could not have been more welcoming and excited for Jonathan to attend. Julie was incredible and made us feel right at home immediately.
During the 13 years that would follow, Jonathan was also challenged, nurtured, and appreciated as an individual at BWL. His academic and social progress were well taken care of by the school on a consistent basis. The Lower School prepared him incredibly well for the challenges of Middle School, and then after that he was incredibly well prepared for Upper School.
As a Junior, Jonathan was well prepared for the upcoming college admissions process, all under the watchful eyes of the college admissions office. The challenges of admissions essays, application strategy, and standardized testing were all thoughtfully addressed by the school and tailored to Jonathan’s particular needs and wishes.
After a lengthy and challenging admissions process, Jonathan was admitted to several selective colleges and universities, including Cornell, which he now attends.
I am so proud of the person that Jonathan has become, both academically and socially, which was accomplished in no small measure due to his 13 great years at BWL.
I highly recommend that all alumni make the choice that I did 13 years ago. It was a decision that greatly enriched our family, and touched the life of Jonathan and this proud alum forever.
