Andrew Weller, ED.D, Director of Admissions

Andrew Weller joined Birch Wathen Lenox in 2024 as Dean of Admissions, overseeing all aspects of the school’s enrollment management. He brings more than two decades of experience in admissions, advancement, and strategic enrollment leadership. Prior to BWL, Andrew served as Dean of Enrollment & Strategic Marketing at St. Stephen's & St. Agnes School, Director of Admissions at Avenues: The World School, Executive Director of Advancement at Ridley College in Canada, and Director of Admissions at Chestnut Hill Academy. He has also contributed to the profession through service on the inaugural Admissions Leadership Council, the TABS/NAIS Global Symposium planning committee, and as faculty chair for the Admission Directors Institute of the Enrollment Management Association. In addition, Andrew sits on the Board of Advisors for the Orion Military Scholars Program. He holds a B.S. from Alfred University, an M.S. from Marymount University, and an Ed.D. from the University of Pennsylvania.

Constance Schaefer, Associate Director of Admissions

Constance Schaefer serves as Associate Director of Admissions at Birch Wathen Lenox, where she has been a valued member of the community since 1998. With a background in early childhood and literacy education, Constance began her career in 1993 and taught Pre-K, Kindergarten, first grade, and third grade before transitioning to admissions in 2019. Her deep classroom experience allows her to guide families with insight and warmth, ensuring students feel welcomed from their first interaction with BWL. Constance holds a B.A. in Early Childhood Education and a master’s degree in Literacy, credentials that continue to shape her thoughtful approach to supporting children and families. She takes particular pride in helping young learners grow into confident students and in making the admissions process a positive experience for parents and children alike. Originally from Long Island, Constance has long called the Upper East Side her home.

Emily Mitaro, Assistant Director of Admissions

Emily Mitaro is an Assistant Director of Admissions at Birch Wathen Lenox, where she is known for her warm and personal approach to welcoming families. She holds a master’s degree in Childhood Education from New York University and has spent more than 12 years working in schools. Emily began her career at BWL as a 3rd grade teacher, teaching for eight years before transitioning to the admissions team. Her classroom experience gives her unique insight into the student journey, helping her guide families with confidence and empathy. Emily is dedicated to creating an admissions process that feels supportive and individualized, ensuring each family feels a genuine connection to the BWL community. After 15 years on the Upper East Side, she now lives on Long Island with her husband, two children, and two large, lovable dogs.

Tian Tang, Assistant Director of Admissions

Born and raised in Shenzhen, China, Tian brings an international perspective and a holistic approach to his role as Assistant Director of Admissions at Birch Wathen Lenox. In this position, Tian works closely with prospective families, leading campus tours, conducting interviews, and helping each student’s strengths and potential be thoughtfully considered. His background spans admissions operations, teaching, and athletics coaching, providing a well-rounded understanding of how students thrive both inside and outside the classroom. Tian also brings cultural awareness and sensitivity to his work, supporting families from diverse backgrounds as they navigate the independent school process. With experience that blends academics, student services, and coaching, Tian is dedicated to ensuring every applicant finds the right environment to learn and grow. Above all, he is passionate about connecting students with a community where they can flourish both academically and personally.
