These items can be mailed to the BWL Admissions Office or brought at the time of your visit. 

School Reports and Teacher Recommendations

School Reports and Teacher Recommendations Forms should be completed by the applicant's current school and sent directly to the BWL Admissions Office by mail or email to admissions@bwl.org.

Entering Grade K-1:

Entering Grade 2-12:

Standardized Testing

BWL no longer requires the ERB for applicants entering Kindergarten or Grade 1.  The students will be evaluated based on their current nursery school reports as well as the BWL student assessment.

For applicants entering all other grades, BWL will continue to require a current standardized test (completed within one year of the application).

Student Interview

Entering Kindergarten:

Applicants are interviewed in small groups supervised by members of the Admissions Department. During the assessment, parents attend a question and answer session with the Headmaster and the Director of the Lower School. In addition to the Q&A session, parents of Kindergarten applicants are requested to return for a formal parent interview on a different day. Parents will be contacted after their child's assessment to schedule this appointment.

Entering Grade 1-5:

Applicants are interviewed in a one-on-one session with a lower school learning specialist followed by an informal meeting with the Admissions Directors. This appointment is for the applicant only and any parent or caregiver can accompany the child to this session.

Entering Grade 6-12:

Applicants are interviewed directly before or after their school tour in a one-on-one session with one of the Admissions Directors.

Parent Interview (For Kindergarten Applicants Only)

During the admissions process, the Admissions Office will contact you to schedule a private parent interview. This interview will offer you the opportunity to share more about your child, as well as to inquire further about The Birch Wathen Lenox School. 

This one-on-one meeting will take place some time after your school tour and your child's assessment, so that you may support your child's application in the most informed manner possible.

All other applications will be accepted beginning September 1. 

Decision letters will be sent via regular mail according to the ISAAGNY notification dates and guidelines. Please visit the ISAAGNY website to reference the notification and reply dates.

"Applications may be obtained by continuing to the Application Materials and Instructions section of the website. We recommend that parents submit an application during the early months of the fall in order to apply for enrollment in the following academic year. In addition to the application parents should submit academic records (from current academic year and last year), standardized test scores, teacher evaluations and the parent essay as part of the admissions process. Please refer to the Application Materials and Instructions section for more information."
