12th Grade College Counseling Experience

Ready for What's Next

Senior year—and the summer before—are all about focus and follow-through.

It’s the time when students turn years of preparation into action, drafting essays, finalizing lists, and completing applications with the guidance of their counselors.

Weekly senior seminars, individual family meetings, and visits from college representatives provide constant touchpoints of support and encouragement. Alongside this practical work, students continue to reflect on their strengths, passions, and aspirations, ensuring their choices align with the futures they want to create. Financial aid workshops, essay support, and counselor check-ins remind families they are not navigating this process alone.

Ultimately, senior year is both a culmination and an exciting new beginning—a season of determination, pride, and anticipation as students step boldly into the next chapter of their journey.

Where Dreams

Take Flight

Senior year stands as a testament to the years of hard work, preparation, and resilience, and the results are deeply rewarding.

In 12th grade, students channel the effort, growth, and self-discovery of the past three years into bold steps toward their future.

With applications, essays, and college lists taking shape, they lean into the process with confidence and clarity.

This is the moment where preparation and possibility converge, and where—supported by counselors, teachers, and family—students begin to see the doors opening to the next chapter of their lives.

What Happens in 12th Grade

Summer Before Senior Year

The summer before senior year is an opportunity to set the tone for the months ahead. Students draft their college essays with the dedicated support of our Associate Director of College Counseling, who is available all summer to guide their writing and help them return in the fall with a strong draft already in hand.

It’s also the perfect time to dive deeper into college research. By exploring options and finalizing a balanced list, seniors start the year with a clear purpose and confidence about the direction they want to pursue.

Guidance Every Step of the Way

Weekly Senior Seminars keep the process on track, covering everything from application logistics to managing stress and balancing responsibilities. These gatherings ensure seniors never feel alone in the process, but instead are supported by peers and guided by experienced mentors.

During senior year, BWL welcomes representatives from a wide range of colleges, offering students the rare opportunity to build personal connections with admissions officers and ask meaningful questions. These visits make the college search feel approachable and personal.

Lock In, Finish Strong

Defined by vision, determination, and action, senior year unfolds with the finish line in sight.

Students finalize their college lists, polish their essays, and prepare their applications to be ready for early submission deadlines.

Alongside this independent work, one-on-one and family meetings with counselors continue throughout the year. Parents and guardians are invited into these conversations, ensuring everyone feels informed and supported as final decisions take shape.

Understanding the Financial Picture

As applications come together, financial planning takes center stage. BWL partners with College Money Method to provide families with expert-led workshops designed to navigate the shifting landscape of financial aid with confidence.

In addition to live sessions, families have continued access to the BWL Resource Center, which houses recordings, tools, and guides that support smart, informed decisions. These resources ensure that financial aid never feels like an afterthought, but rather an integral part of planning for the future.
