11th Grade College Counseling Experience

A Defining Chapter
11th grade is when the college journey becomes real.
At BWL, juniors step into a year full of discovery, planning, and exploration—supported every step of the way by the College Counseling Office. From the signature Junior College Trip, where students tour different types of campuses and begin to imagine their future, to personalized meetings and workshops, this year is about turning possibilities into plans.
Along the way, students gain confidence with standardized testing, deepen their college research through seminars and fairs, and explore what truly excites them, both inside and outside the classroom.
Families are also guided through the complexities of financial aid, ensuring they feel prepared for the road ahead.
Junior year at BWL is about connection, clarity, and taking meaningful steps toward the college process with purpose and confidence.

Stepping into
the Future
11th grade is where preparation transforms into purpose.
During junior year, students shift from early exploration to active engagement with the college process, discovering not only what excites them but also the kind of future they want to build.
It’s a pivotal year that challenges each student to take ownership of their goals and envision the possibilities ahead.
What Happens in 11th Grade
The year begins with the Junior College Trip, an eye-opening experience that combines campus visits with moments of connection and fun, helping students imagine themselves in new environments while strengthening bonds with classmates and counselors.
As the year unfolds, students take important steps that bring the process into sharper focus: the PSAT/NMSQT, their first official SAT or ACT, and optional prep sessions that build confidence and skills.

Events such as the MISC College Fair further broaden their horizons, offering the chance to meet representatives from more than 150 colleges and universities.
Through it all, the College Counseling Office provides steady encouragement and expertise, ensuring that every junior feels supported, challenged, and inspired. This is the year students step forward with curiosity, courage, and confidence—ready to shape their own path toward college and beyond.

Families join in through dynamic Financial Aid Workshops and the Inside the Decision Room Case Study Workshop, where they experience admissions from the perspective of college officers and gain invaluable insight into what matters most.
On campus, juniors begin meeting one-on-one with their counselors and take part in Junior Seminar, diving into essential milestones: building a balanced college list, crafting an activities résumé, brainstorming essays, and exploring tools like MaiaLearning and the Common App.
