Where are you from?
Sandra: I am from Guayaquil, Ecuador. I moved to New York in May 1999, and I now live across the river in New Jersey.
How did you begin working in education?
Sandra: My first job in New York was at H&H Bagels. A friend of mine left the bakery to begin working in the kitchen at BWL and connected me. I worked in the kitchen with him before switching to maintenance in 2005.
What do you do for fun outside of work?
Sandra: I am a very homey person. I like to spend time at home with my daughter and my cats. When we aren’t at home, we like to go shopping, and we go for runs along the Hudson, usually followed by coffee.
What was your favorite subject in school?
Sandra: I liked to read, and I like History; reading books really helped me learn English. I love the book The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah and really recommend it.
What do you like most about working at Birch Wathen Lenox?
Sandra: The people and the community. The little kids really make my day. It feels like my second home.
