Library
The Library serves the entire BWL community with the primary goals of providing materials that contribute to the curriculum, and encouraging outside reading. Lower School students are taught library skills appropriate to their ages. During regularly scheduled class visits, students have the opportunity to share and select books for home reading.
Sixth Grade students take a Library Skills course where they are introduced to the resources of the Middle/Upper School Library through hands-on projects that utilize the print and digital library collections. Eighth Grade students learn information and media literacy skills in a unique full year Research course. Upper School students use the Library’s extensive resources for projects across the curriculum.
Students enjoy the Library’s independent reading collection, which is frequently updated and includes classic and modern literature. Non-fiction resources—both print and online—are available and coordinate with all of our academic disciplines.
Popular magazines are provided for community use.
Library computers are networked and connected to the Internet. Online resources are available off site. DVDs and other media are also integrated into the Library’s collections. The Library is a venue for guest authors whose books tie in with the curriculum, or who are participating in special events, such as the Book Fair each spring.
