Best Selling Author Simon Winchester Visits BWL

On March 15, critically acclaimed master of creative non-fiction Simon Winchester spoke to parents and faculty during the evening portion of BWL’s annual Book Fair. Discussing his most recent book, The Alice Behind Wonderland, Mr. Winchester explained how one compelling photograph, taken in 1858 of six-year-old Alice Liddell, was the inspiration for Lewis Carroll and one of the greatest classics of children’s literature. Winchester, the author of New York Times bestsellers, Atlantic, The Professor and the Madman, and A Crack in The Edge of the World, delighted the audience with stories of his fascinating background, personal adventures and the process by which he was transformed from a young geologist to a newspaper journalist and ultimately an author of creative non-fiction. In the words of Headmaster Frank J. Carnabuci III, “Simon Winchester is a writer of uncommon ability and talent. It was a privilege to welcome him to BWL.”
