Annual Art Show Displays a Collaborative Spirit

The Annual Art Show, always eagerly anticipated by the entire BWL community, exceeded all expectations. On Wednesday, April 27, over 3000 pieces were shown, incorporating four or five projects from every grade. Unique to this year’s show was the way in which themes from different projects played off of one another. A complex sculpture involving trains and surrounding buildings was the work of both the Kindergarten and the Second Grade; the result was spectacular. This year’s circus sculpture by the Third Grade was highly sophisticated and elaborate, and visitors to the show marveled at the ceramic projects created by the Eleventh and Twelfth Grades. According to Art Department Chair Maryann Gelula, a common thread was that many of this year’s works were “museum-based”—following excursions to exhibits around the city, faculty and students became inspired. The sense of energy, and wonderful use of color throughout the Art Show, was unparalleled in recent years.
